Your cruise ship stops at Safaga Port on the Red Sea, and Luxor is reached by a drive across the Eastern Desert. It is a long day trip to the site of the ancient city of Thebes, with the temples of Karnak and Luxor on the east bank and the Valley of the Kings on the west bank.
Welcome to the land of legends, Egypt. On time, due to the cruise ship arrival schedule, you will find the Egypt Tours Booking representative waiting for you in front of the Safaga Port gate, holding our company sign with your name. To start your day, drive across the Eastern Desert to Luxor, on the site of the ancient Egyptian city of Waset, known to the Greeks as Thebes.
Start your tour by visiting the Valley of the Kings, on the west bank of the Nile. For nearly 500 years, from the 16th to the 11th century BC, rock-cut tombs were excavated here for pharaohs and powerful nobles of the New Kingdom. Then drive to the Colossi of Memnon, and after that to the Mortuary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahari, beneath the cliffs on the west bank. After that, have your lunch at a good-quality local restaurant.
After lunch, visit the Karnak Temple complex, a vast group of temples, chapels and pylons. Construction began during the reign of Senusert I in the Middle Kingdom and continued into the Ptolemaic period. Most of the buildings date from the New Kingdom. Then drive to Luxor Temple, constructed around 1400 BC and dedicated to the rejuvenation of kingship. After finishing, return to Safaga Port, according to the cruise ship schedule.
